The Ritual of a New Calendar

Every year one of my favorite Christmas gifts is the customized calendar our daughter-in-law Amy creates for us using family photos taken over the course of the previous year. Even though I’m long past using paper calendars or even a paper planner to keep my business and personal lives organized, I love the ritual of hanging the new calendar in my kitchen, and thinking about the new year unfolding month by month.

This last week of the old year is a good time to think about the new one just ahead, and maybe get ready for it by doing a little organizing, before life takes over and the new year becomes just like the last one.

Here are three things you can do to get ready:

  1. Develop and implement a model work day or work week, building in specific times for client appointments, for staying on top of planning and market-related issues and working on, not just in, your business. And don’t forget about time for your family and your own physical and mental health.
  2. Create a communications and marketing calendar – for staying in touch and building relationships with your existing clients and potential new ones. (If you’d like a template for your marketing calendar, download ours for free from now until the end of January!)
  3. Organize and spruce up your office. Put away (or throw away) those stacks of paper. Clear out the clutter and look for ways to create a more inviting setting for client meetings and for your own daily work.

Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2016!
